Review of Mother (2016) by Jubel B — 27 Dec 2017
This film certainly isn't for everybody, but I feel the blowback has been unwarranted. It is eerie, very well performed (Bardem has an especially fine-line to walk here), and brilliantly executed technically.
Films shouldn't always have to serve their meanings on a platter, and ambiguity does not necessarily mean pretentious. The allegory at the center of the tale works well, and there is absolutely a haunting payoff in this film if one approaches it with an open mind.
The most memorable feature film I've seen this year.
