Darren Aaronofsky has been a very diverse yet complicated director for me with his films ranging from the unsettling to the downright insane subject matter. As for the case of 'mother!' he holds no bars when it comes to the deliberate execution of the narrative and archetypal nature of the film when it comes to the characters and plot of the overall twisted story.

Once again, I can see him play with some sense of biblical tropes associated with the plot and story intertwined within the character's roles; most of which aren't even named. It may seem from the outset how life is perceived with the personification of God and the creation of the world that 'Mother Earth' is enduring to keep and protect whilst everything around is quick to pass by and pass on some majorly consequences.

Whether or not it's deliberately religious hindering to the likes of Roman Polanski or adopting the very surrealist and twisted nature of David Lynch, the film itself is nonetheless uncompromising but incredibly thoughtful, thrilling and engaging.

Like always Aaronofsky brings out the best in his performers, whether or not this guarantee them Oscar nominations will be seen. Overall, this isn't a film for everyone, though if you're prepared to take the uncompromising weirdness of the narrative and subject matter at hand with the general appeal for the director's work, it'll definitely be your cup of tea.
