Review of Mother (2010) by Tvjerry — 21 Sep 2017
Is Jennifer Lawrence the titular character? Is it the house? Is mother a symbol of something greater? There will be many interpretations of this film's allegorical intent, but it does feature Lawrence in almost every shot.
She lives in a secluded country home with her troubled poet/husband (Javier Bardem), but unexpected visitors are only the first twist in this increasingly bizarre and disconcerting trip (and I mean that in the LSD sense).
Although I'm sure director Darren Aronofsky meant the occurrences to become increasingly unsettling, after a while the absurdity of the situations became laughable (to me, at least). Despite the elusiveness of a clear meaning, it's an unusual and intriguing cinematic experience.
