Review of Moscow on the Hudson (1984) by Nick K — 20 Jun 2011
Robin Williams is fantastic in this film, and it's impressive to see that, despite his familiarly light-hearted screen persona, he lacks no steel when it comes to conveying a more poignant side of human emotion. If you're not rooting for him throughout this movie, do yourself a favor and check your f**king pulse.
Basically, you've got awesome shots-on-location in NYC at the waning of it's prime (the early '80s,) enough humor to keep it from being a depressing movie, and a story that might even soothe the sorest 'patriotism muscle' in this increasingly malcontented American culture. All of this on top of Williams' stellar performance. If this doesn't appeal to you then you'll probably be more comfortable slipping in and out of consciousness at the latest big budget superhero rehash, because everyone knows that originality is much more novel the second time around.
