Review of Morvern Callar (2002) by Libby M — 19 Oct 2007
The back of it sounded promising, so I went for it. Not incredible...it was written out like a thriller in the commentary, but that's not in the package deal for the actual film. Very interesting and thought-provoking as far as "Morvern's" self-evolution went, but definitely not a thriller.
There's a lack of running dialogue or soundtrack that's a bit odd at first, but gradually it just makes for a cleaner feel - makes the viewer more in tune with what's onscreen. When music does play, it's good stuff - among it The Velvet Underground, hurrah! But all in all, not much is explained and I felt like the plot just sort of ran into the dirt.
Enjoyable, but certainly not amazing.
