Review of Morvern Callar (2002) by Chris W — 06 Jan 2008

I really expected to like this movie a lot based on what I'd heard and read about it, but for me, it just ultimately did not hang together. I found the Movern Callar character not quite convincing.

Or perhaps a better way to put it -- she seemed to me a different character from what the movie wanted her to be. For example, she just didn't seem like the type of person who would leave her dead boyfriend lying around in the flat and then cut him up into little pieces.

Maybe this was because Samantha Morton was miscast? (to me, she came across as very "normal") Her friendship with Lanna just didn't seem believable to me and the notion that she would run off clubbing with her just didn't ring true.

Having said all of this, I want to see more movies by Lynne Ramsey.
