Review of Morvern Callar (2002) by Jeremy W — 14 Oct 2007
A quite astonishing movie with the breathtaking Samantha Morton captivating with every nuance. Set against the grim, grey backdrop of Scotland in the winter the story starts with a suicide. And unfolds to reveal a woman's grief and how she deals with the pain.
Moving on to the warmth of Spain the movie juxtaposes colour and warmth with the cold harsh realities of a land left behind. The director dabbles with sound and music as much as he does with colour and what we are dealt is a movie that is mesmerising.
The story is a little blurred at times but the emotion is raw and edgy.
