Review of Mortdecai (2015) by Nancy C — 23 Sep 2015
Unlike most terrible comedies, Mordecai isn't poorly made, offensive, or even poorly acted. It's simply not funny. Not at all. It's literally impossible for me to stress enough that not a single attempt at a joke in this film comes anywhere near the target. I've seen tragic war dramas with more comedic potential. Simply put: it's quite possibly the least funny comedy ever made.
The kindest thing I can say about it: it isn't Johnny Depp's fault. I think he played the incredibly unfunny part as best as anyone could. I'd give most of the blame to director David Koepp and writer Eric Aronson.
