Review of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) by Name G — 05 Aug 2010
(1997 Director: John R. Leonetti) Hmmm..so a different director than Mortal Kombat (the first movie)! I didn't realize that before now.
Robin SHou gives another truly amazing martial arts & acting performance as Liu Kang, victor who SAVED THE WORLD in the first movie now (AGAIN) forced to defend Terra again--mainly because Shao Khan the Emperor of Outworld (Brian Thompson) cheats! He breaks the rules...going against the laws of nature, physics, outworld, earth world you name it!
This tale continues the story of Robin Shou who lost his younger brother, a fact the "dark side" (so to speak) enjoys turning against him. We get a chance to see "Wolf" who is romanced by Jade (Irina Pntaeva). Great martial arts footage with an interesting plot!
Okay, I COULD MAYBE see where some might think this is sacriligious!? Hmm.. but I wouldn't agree! It is fantasy--pure or impure and simple!
The story opens (as I recall) with Sonja on her way to find JAX her good friend to enlist his aide...
Do YOU have a favorite Mortal Kombat character? or perhaps power? JAX is sooo impressive with those mechanically-enhanced arms on that super buff body (Lynn Red)....
(1) James Remar INSTEAD of Christopher Lambert (Highlander) as Lord Rayden...
(2) Hmm...also a DIFFERENT actress portrays Sonya Blade (A very fit Sandra Hess...alas, I will always miss the fiery performance of Brigett Wilson..especially in her early FORCED FIGHT against KANO...."What do you think I'm your secretary??").
True or False: James Remar was auditioned for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat Annihilation and Christopher Lambert was interested in reprising the role of Rayden but was committed to Beowulf.
