Review of Mortal Kombat (2021) by Theirrelephants — 25 Apr 2021
Didn't use the original theme song once (Instant 2 off the score), the actors weren't comparable to the originals, no johnny cage, and the actor who played kano got a back injury afterwards due to him carrying the entire film.
Really big pacing issues, why was Jax even in it? Same for the teeth chick and whoever the 'chosen one' was. Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung in the originals were easily a thousand times better than their counter-parts in the new movie. They should have at least brought a scottish guy back for Raiden or something instead of whoever the pudgy guy they had as him was. Both Lambert and Tagaway knew exactly what type of movie they were in and they hammed it up perfectly. The new Tsung and Raiden are always serious, all the time. It falls flat, like their acting, and just like the movie itself. Oh, and the new Liu Kang or however you spell it was terrible compared to the original actor as well.
Sub Zero and Kano stole what little there was of the movie worth stealing.
