Review of Mortal Kombat (1995) by David B — 08 Jun 2012
Where others have sunk in the mire of imitation, director Paul Anderson and writer Kevin Droney effect a viable balance between exquisitely choreographed action and ironic visual and verbal counterpoint.
British director Anderson does a fair job with what he was given: four good-looking leads, some very impressive sfx, Babylonian sets, a bone-crunching soundtrack, and a battery of well-choreographed fights.
The characters are all there and look great but it's a shame the actor's can't act but do great in the fight scenes. The plot is a little cheesy but to adapt from a video game it actually works really well.
This is somewhat the best video game film made so far,or a least true to form. The sound track is brilliant and probably the best thing about the film but it's still watchable and better than most video game adaptation.
Worth a look but avoid the sequel.
