Review of Mortal Engines (2018) by Joel P — 16 Dec 2018
I wanted to see a fantastical CGI spectacular and Mortal Engines delivered a fantastical CGI spectacular. For what it is, and we've seen and heard it all before, it's not that bad. At one point, I thought Hugo Weaving's character was going to say: "I am your father" but since that's been immortalized in another movie, it was implied differently.
The imagery in this film reminded me of the artwork of Patrick Woodroffe. SEXIST ALERT: the hot blonde is Vincent ("Hi, Joker") D'Onofrio's daughter. The actress who plays Anna Fang is a Korean named Jihae Kim, who, sadly, is not very hot.
Indeed, at first I thought she was a man! Maybe the role called for this, I don't know. I would have cast a smoking hot asian/oriental model for this part.
