I thought this documentary was very respectful of the cultural roots of the music presented. I thought there wasn't enough time spent on the music and culture of Salvador, Bahia, and too much time in Recife, but I'm partial anyway (my mom's from Salvador).
This is definitely not a documentary for someone that wants to see what's new in Brazilian music, but it does explore the most popular and influential styles.
