Review of Morning Glory (2010) by Radwan N — 14 Mar 2012
A very light and breezy career-comedy with McAdams at her perkiest/annoying (delete as applicable) as ambitious TV producer Becky Fuller, who lands a job revitalising a dead in the water network morning show and decides to blackmail grumpy, aloof newsreader Mike Pomeroy into returning to the screen to bring some journalistic credibility.
Ford steals the movie, and he knows it,although full credit to McAdams who should elevate a rung up in the rom-com actress stakes following this. On the surface it rolls along perfectly agreeably, although a love interest for Becky is crowbarred in rather clumsily and for no real purpose.
It's a bit of a cop-out though, as Fuller apparently idolises Pomeroy's serious journalism but is more than happy to promote tacky nonsense to achieve her rating increases. The script doesn't seem to treat this ironically either, celebrating that it succeeds on a camp weatherman reporting from a rollercoaster, or Diane Keaton as the co-anchor in a fat sumo suit.
There is one "serious" breaking news story caught on a hunch by Pomeroy but it's clearly the exception, as Pomeroy finally shows he cares by making Frittata on-air.
