Review of More Than A Game (2011) by Lucas Y — 13 Dec 2010
Not what I'd call a powerful documentary like 'Hoop Dreams', but rather just an enjoyable look into Lebrons life before he made millions. The story is nothing we haven't seen before. Poor boys from single parent households work hard and make something of themselves.
What really surprised me was how genuinely nice and humble Lebron and his friends seem. The media portrays them as spoiled and rude when they're anything but. Dru Joyce shaped these kids lives and made them into champions off the court.
Never knew anything about Lebrons teammates pre-NBA. I figured Lebron was the team, but in fact 2 of his teammates went on to play professionally in Europe and another one played football at Ohio State.
Watching this after 'The Decision' really made me realize Lebron shouldn't be receiving so much hate, although it also made me surprised he left in the first place. This documentary shows you just how much Ohio worshiped Lebron.
My only complaint about this was the lack of off the basketball court back stories.
