Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Keith C — 02 Mar 2009
After recently watching this movie again for the first time in 20 some years, I still love it. The story is simple and no real surprises. It's a character study for each actor. Cher and Cage are "fun" to watch but Dukakis steals almost every scene she is in.
The academy honored Cher and Olympia with Oscars that year. Olympia's was truly deserved for this film. Cher's award was obviously for her body of work in stronger performances in "Silkwood" and "Mask" in prior years.
There are no special effects or racy sex scenes. For it's time, this movie was perfect. Seeing it now makes it look a little mediocre. If you have never seen it, definitely watch it. It's amusing and charming.
