Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Bradley W — 06 Jul 2012
Moonstruck is a fun romantic comedy that works because of its great cast and fun little story. It pulls few romance cliches and it flows nicely and had some fun characters. Although the movie is predictable and we know how it will end, it's the ride there that always matters and its a good one.
I agree that the cast did deserve its Oscars, but I don't think it was worthy of a Best Picture nomination even if it is one of the few good romantic comedies you will see in your life. Cher is great, Nicolas Cage is great, Vincent Gardenia and Olympia Dukakis are fantastic, and the rest of the cast provide some good performances.
I miss seeing Cher in great films like this and Mask, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. Moonstruck is a nice little movie with good performances and was enjoyable.
