Review of Moonstruck (1987) by Matthew R — 01 Aug 2010
Olympia Dukakis gives the best performance in this film. She is the strongest member of the family, the only one capable of facing the truth head on instead of hiding behind sex and lust. Plus her sarcasm and deadpan delivery provide some of the movie's funniest bits.
Nic Cage demonstrated an early flare for the over-the-top style that's become his trademark, particularly in the scene in the bakery ovens, when we first meet him. I know Cher is supposed to be the star, but to me she was outshined by pretty much the rest of the cast.
