I love this movie. I lost both of my beloved parents within a year of each other in 1986 and 1987. We were very close and we were all great movie fans. Needless to say, I was devastated by this and was not myself for most of 1987.

One night as the sun came up in my lonely apartment, I heard myself laughing out loud at this wonderful movie playing on HBO. At that moment, I realizied that my period of grief was over and I was beginning to become my old self again.

So you see, this romantic comedy has a very special place in my heart. Cher deserves every accolade and award she ever got for her performance ten times over. Nicholas Cage was so perfectly cast, It's impossible to imagine anybody else playing that role.

Danny Aiello and Vincent Gardenia are so great, words fail me. Olympia Dukakis and John Mahoney, the grandfather and the dogs and the in-laws, it just never let's up in wonderfulness. I grew up in Brooklyn and it's a great setting for a fairy-tale and this is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
