Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Brendan N — 22 Mar 2018
It is refreshing to see Wes Anderson has not lost he's touch after these years. the film boasts an ensemble cast. I really didn't feel this film would grab my attention but from the opening scenes it is clearly an Anderson film with the oddball humour clearly ticked.
The two leads are excellently cast and bring a real interest to the roles. They are two misunderstood souls who have found solace in one another. these roles were critical to the film and Anderson chose well with Gilman & Hayward.
Willis is quite hilarious as the dimwitted Captain who must try and find the two missing. It is good to see Willis adding he's presence to such a film, he really does have a good eye for material, besides the quick pay out film. Norton is at he's zany best here as the scout troop leader. he's opening scene is what creates the oddball humour for the film.
The story is second nature to Anderson who is more comfortable with he's characters. the film is well put together without a bad performance, it is definitely not for everyone but if you can stand the humour & running time then you'll discover something brilliant. Anderson has a unique style and you can't help but fall in love with the characters he creates. Each film has a voice and a bunch of characters who are funny even if they aren't explored like the leads, you tend to get a lot from the style the actors are using. 22-03-2018.
