Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Peter C — 04 Jul 2013
My new haircut and I went to see Moonrise Kingdom at the cinema tonight: funny, playful and silly (the film, not my haircut).
A cross between and parody of a moody, European, relationship drama and a taut, prison escape, action adventure - all set in a boy scout camp in a remote, rural island.
It's wonderfully shot in a light, grainy hue; each sequence and still image is exquisitely crafted in a stark, comic manner; and the performances, editing and direction are impeccable.
My only gripe is that it all felt a bit one pace and samey, particularly in the last third which lacked any sort of dramatic build up or tension.
An entertaining hour and a half, though.
At least, that's what my new hair cut thought. As for me ...
