Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Brett H — 31 Mar 2014
Wonderfully vibrant and quirky young love story that more than a few times shocked, surprised and emotionally engaged me. The two young actors are phenomenal and you like them immediately and start rooting for them to succeed, pretty great for their debut film.
The rest of the cast is oddball brilliance with Ed Norton having lots of fun playing a bit of a pansy and Bruce Willis actually giving a damn about his character and TRYING. Not being a fan of Wes Anderson's style, I found this to be his most accessible film and the warm-hearted adventure will suck you in.
It does get a little too nutty for my taste in the last act and the sense of reality that had been built up is promptly thrown out the window, but that's a minor complaint to make in a film that's intentionally wacky.
