Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Isaac B — 21 Mar 2015
Wes Anderson did a phenomenal job directing such a delightful film. This is definitely not an ordinary film, it takes a very unique approach in the way it tells its story. For Wes Anderson fans they will be used to this however before Moonrise Kingdom, I had never seen any one of his movies.
My first impression was simply enchanting. With such a star-studded cast, surprisingly my favorite performances were from the two leads who are a couple of nobodies. Jared Gilman who played the lead boy Sam was hilarious to watch as an exaggerated scout expert while Kara Hayward, playing Suzie was a perfect counterpart playing a lonely and lost girl.
Their love story although playing characters as young as twelve was still more enjoyable than most one's of more adult romantic movies. I feel the only aspect holding this movie from a perfect five-star score is how as the movie progressed it became less and less grounded and more unrealistic.
This, in some ways added to the humor but in others took away from this movies natural charm. Besides that slight nit-pick, this work of Anderson's is a very solid addition to his gallery of films.
