Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Vaughan M — 10 Jan 2016
Wes Anderson's comedy, no wait drama, no wait coming of age tale, no wait adventure epic, ah forget it, Wes Anderson's masterpiece follows a Khaki Scout who abandons his troop, the girl that he loves, the police trying to find the boy and girl, and the girls parents who aid in the search.
In Wes Anderson fashion, this movie is weird, quirky, well directed and framed, brilliantly written, superbly acted, and is overall a modern masterpiece. The story is simple but Anderson makes it complex by intertwining tales and narratives. the acting is spot on as always starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances Mcdormand, Harvey Keitel, Jason Schwartzman, and two brilliant young child actors whose names I don't know.
Wes Anderson's script is so finely tuned and quirked in all the right ways that it makes this movie special in every sense.
Now let's talk about the framing. Good lord the framing. it's so symmetrical and beautiful. the colors are vibrant and pop right in your eyes.
My only flaw with the film is that the ending seemed a little rushed and left me slightly unsatisfied. I still like the ending, it just didn't satisfy the grandness of the rest of the film.
