Review of Moonrise (1948) by Laird J — 12 Feb 2008
Great Southern Gothic / noir / romance. This could almost be mistaken for an early silent film (Murnau or Hitchcock spring to mind) in terms of dynamic Expressionist technique. Dane Clark is suitably tense with anger, as the man haunted by the hanging of his criminal father, who is potentially heading for the same fate.
A great, stylish, cynical yet romantic melodrama.
