Review of Moonraker (1979) by Juan C — 12 Jun 2010
Moonraker AKA James Bond in Space takes the comedic nature of the series to galactic levels.
The writers were obviously not trying too hard when the female lead is named Dr Goodhead. Jaws and his girlfriend add a superhero nature to the film. Then there is Drax whose sole purpose appears to be to dispose of Bond in the most amusing manner. He even admits that fact.
The climatic battle in space mimics the battle sequence in Thunderball with a mass of enemies battling each other. The difference is the sea has been replaced by space and lasers.
In the end the film is so ridiculous, it is hard not to enjoy some of its charm.
