Review of Moonlight (2016) by Craig M — 27 Feb 2017
Incredible performances that highlight the impact of emotional detachment / emotional sublimation on Chiron, a young man growing up in Miami, but the film also explores this with such humanity: How long can we go without true connection (parental, platonic, sexual) before we break? This movie - a movie that won BEST PICTURE for exploring the intersectionality of male blackness & queerness - answers that question on a human scale.
This is not a gay black man film; it is a film about all of us. A film about human kindness. A film about love. And we need this film now more than ever.
