Review of Moonlight (2016) by Tony P — 02 Mar 2017
I viewed this movie on the back of its Academy Awards success.
Moonlight is a simple low budget film about the growth of a south east U.S. boy, Chiron to adulthood. The film is split into three chapters. The first chapter tells the story of Chiron as a young boy, nicknamed Little.
The second chapter tells the story of Chiron in his teenage years and the third in adulthood.
The performance of the supporting cast is good. Naomie Harris (Moneypenny off the Daniel Craig Bond films) puts in a very surprising performance as Chiron's substance misuse/prostitute mother.
Basically the main story outline concerns Chiron's sexuality. A question that haunts him until adulthood.
A very average film experience if I am being honest.
Don't get me wrong not awful but not the best film of the year come on.
