Review of Moonlight (2016) by Andrew F — 17 Mar 2017
An interesting film to go see on St. Patrick's Day. I must admit I didn't really like it watching it in the moment. I wasn't fully drawn in to the film. I certainly didn't feel like I watched the Best Picture of the year.
When we made it home Carla said to me over our Tequila cocktails that this would have been a good one to have seen at TIFF where you could hear from the producer and actors. This is where the 'Luck of the Irish' (firmly Canadian, proud of my immediate Scottish descent drinking a product of Mexico) kicks in.
Thank you Greg Leclair (lucky to have known you) for making TIFF a part of our lives. Thank you TIFF for having uploaded the after film Q&A with the Moonlight producer and actors to YouTube. It took us back in time remembering all the good and some VERY bad films our friend Greg exposed us to.
It also gave us a stronger appreciation for a film that left us with questions in the theatre. It made us think. It was gritty. The acting was very good. I'm still not convinced it deserved the Oscar.
