Review of Moonlight (2016) by Alex T — 01 Apr 2017
Moonlight is a mighty testament to the power of one person's story. It's so sturdy it can be the black, queer, poor answer to a dozen beloved white-centered films -- American Pie, Sixteen Candles, Matilda.
That would be enough, but don't make the mistake of assuming its appeal is as narrow as that of most white-centric films. It's also a boldly nonlinear coming-of-age story.
