Review of Moonlight (2016) by Dptdryste — 27 Feb 2017
Man, just finished watching this, and what an emotional ride... like other reviewers said, it's too bad that the subject matter isn't more appealing to a wider audience, but that's fine... I'm just glad that I got to see it.
The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that the medium it uses to tell the stories it tells and touch on the themes it touches limit it from going too deep into any one of the stories or themes.
Extrapolated further, individually, analysing any one of them (being black in America, school to prison pipeline, childhood psychology, drug culture, American "low income" culture, other pathologies, sexuality, belongingness in community, being true to one's self, and more).
.. seeing this movie as a balcony on which many of these themes and stories are perched upon give you insight on a lot here... This movie is very dense (in a good way), it made me uncomfortable, sad, happy, pensive and more.
