Review of Moonlight (2016) by Joseph M — 18 Feb 2017
After all the rave reviews I was very disappointed in this movie. It provides the same old tired plot that has been used over and over again. A poor black child, a single parent, drug infested inner city and he is a homosexual.
This is a very emotional and sad situation, but there really was nothing new. The story line was very predictable except for some of the strange elements. I deadly drug dealer with a heart of gold. The character change from a teenager to a young man was totally unbelievable.
He went from a skinny tall teenager to a short muscular young man. There is no way you can accept a total physical body change from lifting weights and working out as the movie implies. Finally I saw one critic who said he finally finds happiness in the end.
Yes, he has a one night stand with his gay lover??? Now what, no skills, no education, no future opportunities and he is left to a life of crime modeled after his former drug dealing tutor. Disappointed ai saw it and would not recommend it to anyone.
