Review of Moonlight (2016) by Mike V — 30 Jan 2018
Moonlight is a 2016 American coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Barry Jenkins.
I found the first half of this drama to be quite slow-paced and with very minimal plot points. The story does pick up in the second half. While the film does have a good and interesting basic story, there is just not enough substance to make this a classic. The film contains some interesting camera angles and filming techniques which mostly enhance but occasionally subtract from the total. I found three scenes to be quite emotional and unexpectedly brought tears to my eyes. The final scenes are nicely paced and enhance the anticipation for possibilities and what may come. I was initially disappointed with the sudden ending, but on reflection, it couldn't have been any other way. D & MC.
