Review of Moon (2009) by Tyler B — 05 Sep 2012
This is one of the best movies I have seen this summer. not a lot of commercial hoopla, which really turns me off. there are no strategically placed ads for NASA or "windows, vista space edition".
just one guy playing multiple roles quite beautifully and a computer eerily voiced by kevin spacey.....what more can you ask for? sure there is the whole "what have we accomplished as a species with this technology" rhetoric, but it really does make you think about it in a serious manner because of the direction of duncan jones who seems to channel the best of stanley kubrick and mingle it with a little alfred hitchcock and a "touch" of early spielberg.
plus the performance by sam rockwell is nothing less than a gift to the screen. some may say that it echoes 2001: a Space Odessy too closely, but if they see the film for themselves they will see just how wrong they are for making such an assumption based on a trailer.
of course there is the obvious similarity between HAL and GERTY and the similarity in the theme of isolation. but if you actually see the film you wil realize there are very few similarities at all. MOON! SEE IT!
