Review of Moolaadé (2004) by Liam U — 01 Mar 2010
A very interesting film which tells the tale of women getting ideas above their station and facing the petty male tyranny a small African village has had to endure. Dealing with the topic of female circumcision, it's hardly a light-hearted affair, but Ousmane Sembene directs with sensitivity and gives a glimpse at a culture not often represented on film.
Quite watchable with good performances, the story unfolds at a leisurely pace but still manages to stay interesting.
