Review of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) by Kj P — 01 Apr 2012
I wouldn't at all be surprised if Monty Python and the Holy Grail were the silliest comedy ever. The amount of stupendous incredulity it showcases at each and every turning point simply baffles and confounds reason to all new comedic heights.
But then again, it would have lost all its effective charm were that NOT the case. I firmly feel quite reasonable in awarding this, in my personal measure, a full five stars, not only because it was funny and humorous, but also because of its gags, under-hand and not-so-apparent exposes of non-sequiturs, goofs and the like, which in the end proved to be more classic than all the rest of its humor.
To be honest, this is definitely the silliest comedy I've ever seen. It's full of impossible anachronistic plot, filled with innuendos and parodies, and of course deadpan humor. But the plot-line held on strongly, with effective timing, choreography, plus quite an amount of parallel storytelling which really evoked my interest throughout.
Without the likes of John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, and the rest of its cast and crew, all this would not have been possible at all. In the end, as with its ravishing beginning (with those "opening credits"), Monty Python and the Holy Grail is definitely one of the funniest films I've seen thus far.
At any rate, it's surely the silliest.
