Review of Monterey Pop (1968) by Daibhid J — 13 Jan 2008
The Who wantonly smash everything in sight, Hendrix sets his axe on fire, Eric Burdon does a psyched out "Paint it black" while BrianJones wanders about looking cool, Otis sweats up a storm, so does Janis, The Airplane remind us that while they made some great records they were pretty dull live, while Country Joe does the opposite and The Mamas and the Papas prove they actually can reproduce their sound live.
And all done in considerably less time then Woodstock, less mud too.
