Review of Monsters vs Aliens (2009) by Gavin C — 15 Jan 2012

Overall, this isn't on par with the first two Shrek films, the first two Kung Fu Panda films, Prince of Egypt, and How To Train Your Dragon, but it is a wonderful sci-fi action animated flick that has wonderful sci-references from ET, Men In Black and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I'm gonna get to the strongest points. The animation is groundbreaking and the character animation is innovative. The music by Henry Jackman was brilliant with alien and sci-fi-esque tunes that are so memorable and keeps the amusing sci-fi action at it's boost while the script is witty, dramatic, and funny. The voice acting is perfect. Kiefer Sutherland, Seth Rogen, and Will Arnett were amazing. Reese Witherspoon did great as Susan (AKA Ginormica) and Hugh Laurie did amazing as Dr. Cockroach.

The only weakest points are the predictable story (I liked the idea of monsters fighting against aliens) and its lack of character development.

Although, not a classic, Monsters VS Aliens is an entertaining and action-packed sci-fi flick and one of Dreamworks Animations better films since Shark Tale and Bee Movie disappointed me.
