Review of Monsters University (2013) by Peter A — 26 Mar 2014
Probably an unnecessary prequel capitalizing on the franchise, but passing enjoyable. But this is no Toy Story and I'm not sure that the younger audience would relate to the characters'foibles and messages of "it's kinda OK to cheat because you can always make it up again"; University ïs harsh, full of bullys and probably unnecessary"; and "Nerds can only win when hey cheat".
Maybe the underlying premise in the whole franchise, namely, scaring people is "good" is just a bit off. Visually in 3D it starts of stunning then become ho-hum like a lot of other recent Pixar offerings.
Earlier rich animation that was once so impressive has sadly failed to innovate even in the 3D format so now strong story-line and relatable characters are needed. Missing here.
