Monsters University occupies the middle ground when it comes to Pixar sequels. It's not as innovative or emotionally resonant as Toy Story 2 or 3, but it's a great deal more fun and engaging than the needless Cars 2.
The animation is so gorgeous and the voice work so accomplished, that you almost don't notice that the plot and characters are paper thin.
