Review of Monsters University (2013) by Haruna Y — 30 Nov 2014
"Monsters University" is the second film after "Monsters Inc."(2005) and it tells us the former story of "Monsters Inc.". I love this film because it is pretty, cute, and fun. Sometimes, cynical parts can also be seen.
It was created by Pixar in 2013, which is a computer animation film studio in the United States. And this film is the most recent film created by them. Speaking of Pixar, its colorful animation style is really famous. We can see a lot of monsters which are colorful, cute, and interesting in this film.
This film tells the story of two characters, Mike (Michael Wazowski) and Sully (James P. Sullivan). In the first film, they are the best friends and partners, Mike works as an assistant to Sully at Monsters Inc.. In this film, we can see their first meeting and their school days focusing on Mike. Although there is no scene that is as moving as in the first film, we can find out how wonderful Mike's character is. The unexpected characters' personalities will certainly attract us. We will be surprised at what they used to be like at the university. Mike actually used to be a single-minded person and a hard worker. On the other hand, Sully actually used to be a over-confident and conceited person. Knowing their backgrounds, our viewpoint on the first film may change. Mike wanted to be a scarer, who is a monster who scares human children at night, their screams creating energy. Unfortunately, he was a rather inconspicuous boy because he was small and not fierce compared to his classmates. He could not avoid facing the differences between his ideal and reality. We also are made to think by this film, at least once, that we do not necessarily become what we want to be just by making efforts that are too narrowly focused. However, this film tells us the importance of the way of thinking; finding your own new parts and reliable companions can make up for inborn inabilities.
I strongly recommend you watch this film. You will come to enjoy Pixar's view of the world. And you will get an opportunity to reconsider your own self thanks to Mike.
