Review of Monsters, Inc. (2001) by Cj W — 12 Mar 2014
Monsters Inc. is one of Pixar's first mature films, the screenplay is very well written, touching a variety of themes, but also, the animation is the most creative and awe-inspiring that Pixar had made until that point.
They honestly really find their groove with this picture, Toy Story 2 showed us how well written their screenplays can be, but we all knew how stunning the animation could be from the original Toy Story.
Monsters Inc. though, shows us how poignant of a message Pixar can send to adults, this film deals with themes of corporate corruption and freedom, which are problems that our industrial society face everyday.
And these are very mature themes for an animated film, themes that children won't really understand, but nonetheless, they will love its awesome visuals and Pixar's trademark witty comedy. Adults however, will be awestruck by its ability to make you laugh, provoke your thoughts, and most of all, charm you.
Also, the voice acting by Billy Crystal and John Goodman is terrific, which makes this film even more enjoyable. I'd say Monsters Inc. is a very innovative film that anyone can enjoy, and is almost as good as the best of Pixar's films.
