Review of Monsters, Inc. (2001) by Brady L — 13 Feb 2018
Whenever you think about animated films, 3 companies come to mind immediately. Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar. Movies like Monsters, Inc prove that Pixar is undoubtedly and deservedly the true champion of animation going forward.
This movie is amazing, it looks great, the acting is superb and the story is unique. Billy Crystal IS Mike Wazowski, an ocular monster who makes up for his lack of size or fear inducing anything by being alongside the greatest scarer Monster City has ever seen, Sully.
This dynamic duo are so great together and the movie flows beautifully through them. The subtext of an energy crisis because children are not as frightened of monsters as much as they used to be and the fact that energy is required by the ever increasing population is a great way to showcase this issue in a unique and fun loving way.
This movie also has the funniest and possibly most gruesome fake death scene in movie history with the garbage compactor sequence where Sully believes Boo is being crushed and dismembered and ends with the heartbreaking look on Sully's face as he holds in his arms what he believes to be Boo's remains in garbage cube form.
This is a movie no collection is complete without and even the prequel, Monsters University, adds to the narrative of these two characters and a couple others and must be enjoyed alongside this soon to be classic.
