Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Natalie ! — 14 Dec 2009
Bleak, disturbing, and brilliant character study. Monster's Ball is very dark and it's relentless in compelling dramatic moments. Heath Ledger is great in one of his finest performances of his young career.
Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry generate geat chemistry and generate one of the most realistic and electrifying sex scenes of all-time. This movie felt real. It was harrowing and haunting, Halle Berry's performance was edgy and sexually appealing.
This film suggests a society that is full of racism, sexuality, and depression. It's one of the few drama's that I have seen that truly compelled me. It left me speechless, it's one of those movie's that is effective upon it's first viewing and is never the same after multiple viewings.
That is how shocking and unsettling some of the scenes during the first viewing. This a great drama, I highly reccomend it.
