Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Sune B — 16 Mar 2010
Everybody is going to tell you about the outstanding acting from Halle Berry (I am particularly impressed on how she can play a rural, simple, not-sophisticated woman, a role much different from the glamour is usually asked to Hollywood stars), but I also want to underline the magnificient interaction among characters, the sights between them, the administration of silences, the faces while other character is speaking, and also the way the directors manages with the whole story (a really sad, terrible drama) and connects in a very special way some shots to others using the sound and other resources.
Also liked that the end let us more questions than answers, mainly talking about the thinking of one of the characters. So, a not very complicated story, but full of little aspects to analyze, and although not marvelous (very hard), worth to watch it.
