Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Kevin F — 10 Jul 2010
Overwraught performances from the two leads (Thornton and Berry) left me wondering why everyone was talking about it so highly. My cynical side told me that the explicit nature of the sex scenes between interracial actors had something to do with it.
What everyone SHOULD have been talking about was the strength of the performances of the supporting cast - Peter Boyle and Mos Def were brilliant and what Heath Ledger did with less than 15 minutes of screen time was nothing short of miraculous.
