Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Eytan D — 03 Jul 2013
Not easy to watch in the slightest bit, but "Monster's Ball" is an A-grade drama that creates one of the most unlikely but affecting romances between two damaged souls. Marc Forster's direction is frank and to the point, and Billy Bob Thornton gives a great performance.
But it's Halle Berry's incendiary portrayal of Leticia that at first sight guaranteed her the Oscar. "Monster's Ball" also managed to show the most effective but uncomfortable sex scene in years.
You won't easily forget this one.
