Review of Monsters (2010) by Sabih A — 29 Jul 2011
Not the low budget Sci-Fi film I was expecting but more of a road movie come love story, not another one! A probe looking for alien life crash lands in Mexico and spawns giant Octopus like monsters that start attacking the already poverty stricken Mexican towns.
An "infected zone" is created to stop them entering the USA and corrupt border crossings are set up. The story begins when a rich publisher orders one of his photographers, who's in Mexico documenting the mayhem caused by the attacking aliens,to escort his injured daughter back to the USA.
This film is more about the tentative relationship between the two leads and their journey back to America rather than the attacking aliens and it gets a little frustrating. Although its quite a slowly paced story I still found myself mesmerised by the amazing locations and effects, which on such a low budget are fantastic hence the 3 stars.
