Review of Monsters (2010) by Chris B — 09 Jan 2012
Sure, this film has worthy credentials. Indy production on shoestring budget by a rookie director, using only two professional actors yadda yadda yadda. But is it any good? I get the feeling that the critics were a bit too excited at the prospect of a successful small time director when they handed out stars in the papers and magazines.
Despite the screenwriter saying he wanted to make a love story that didn't make him sick. the relationship between the lead characters didn't ring true for me and some of the dialogue could have come from a text book called 'Script writing for pseuds'.
Now for the positive aspects. There are more than a few times that tension is effectively built and some great camera shots. Overall though, I didn't find it entertaining enough to merit more than two stars.
