Review of Monsters (2010) by Julian H — 22 Feb 2015
This film fails to live up to its premise by delivering a film exempt of any thrill and focus on character development alone. Whilst I'm all for some character development, nothing interesting happened in this film.
The script wasnt terrible but the narrative was unfocused and derivative. I didn't love the acting and found Whitney Able a rather irritating character to begin with. Scoot McNairy was perhaps the completely sole definitive positive, giving a good but tempered performance.
The aesthetic was miserable and depressing and I wanted to murder Gareth Edwards whenever he ruined a chance to introduce some alien thrills, or in this case some interesting plot development.
